Stone circles...

The heritage town of Kenmare was a lunch stop, but we made a beeline for the nearby stone circle. How could I pass up seeing my first stone circle?

There are about 100 stone circles in SW Ireland alone, and this is the biggest. It dates to the Bronze Age (2200-500 BC). Stone circles of this type are usually oriented to a solar or lunar event like a solstice. In the center of the circle is a monument known as a boulder burial; this type is rarely found outside of SW Ireland.

We took a group picture at the stone circle; hopefully I'll track down a copy so I can post it here.
